 Theme for 2009-10

Our theme for the 2009-10 school year is Witness: Proclaiming the Power of the Risen Christ. In our study of the book of Acts in Teen Bible Study, we have been seeing the incredible growth of the infant church. In Teen Impact on Wednesdays we will focus on key characters in Acts, as well as how the gospel impacts different areas of our lives.

What Our Youth Ministry Is All About

Mission: The youth ministry of Bible Baptist Church exists to partner with the parents in discipling teens to become more like Christ.

This mission includes three elements that form the basis of everything we do in youth ministry:

Our Partners are the Parents

The wisest man who ever lived said to his son, “Give me thine heart” (Proverbs 23:26). God has charged parents with the ultimate responsibility of teaching their children to know and fear the Lord—a responsibility that does not change when the child turns thirteen. Therefore, the role of the youth ministry in the church is not to replace, but to support what godly parents are already doing at home. We strive to reflect this partnership in the youth ministry by keeping parents involved in what their teens are learning and doing in youth group. In addition, we seek to equip parents in their task of discipling their teens by holding regular parent meetings which address an important topic in parenting and by making available resources on parenting.

The Goal is Christlikeness

God’s goal for every Christian is that he or she become like Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28-30). This process begins when we trust in Christ as Savior, and continues for the rest of our lives (1 John 3:1-3). Every effort in the youth ministry is directed toward discipling the teens to become more like Christ. In order to more clearly explain what a Christlike person looks like, we emphasize that such a person is a God-loving, Word-filled, ministry-minded disciple-maker (Deuteronomy 6:4-7; Colossians 1:9-10).

The Means is Preaching Christ

How does a youth ministry help teens become more like Christ? By preaching Christ to them. This is what Paul explains in Colossians 1:28 when he says, “Whom [Christ] we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” We seek to preach Christ by teaching teens how the Gospel impacts every area of a their lives. Every activity we do is crafted to increase the channels through which we can communicate Christ through His Word to the teens.
