Man is owed nothing from God….not one thing. God is in no way debtor to man. While others may be in debt to man, the God of the Universe owes him nothing. In a sense, our employers are in debt to us because of work we have done for them. We work our forty hours and at the end of the week, we expect to be “rewarded” with what we are owed – an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s work. I have been thinking the last few days on the analogy I used in this past Sunday morning’s message, regarding God’s guilty verdict on all mankind. Though not original with me, the analogy compared all of humanity to life on a pirate ship. Did you ever think that there are actually some good and innocent things that happen on a pirate ship? These mariners, ill-famed as they are, must work diligently to care for the rigging, patch the sails, swab the decks, seal cracks in the hull, etc. When one of their sailing companions is sick, they will compassionately tend to the needs of the ailing friend. Yes, good things do happen on a pirate ship. Yet the whole lot of them, despite some good deeds they may do, are in violation of international law. They are all guilty.
